From noon to 5am: Day 3 of 66

Day 3 of 66

I know myself well enough to know that I will hit snooze 10 times and go back to sleep if I don’t have an early morning meeting. So, I needed a wake up strategy. In the book the 5am Club, they mentioned things like sleeping in your gym clothes or buying a digital alarm clock, setting it 2 or 3 hours fast and setting it to alarm at your usual wake up time or later. When it goes off and you see the time it’ll trick your brain into thinking it’s time to get up or you’re late. None of these would work for me cause I’m the ‘I’m already late so fuck it’ kinda person lol. I needed a customized approach.

So, I set 3 alarms. 5:00, 5:04 & 5:10, moved Alexa out of my room and into a nearby one, put the tablet in the washroom and left the light on. That way, to turn the alarms off I had to get up and would be met with light and already be in the washroom. My outfit for the day would be sitting on the tablet waiting. By the time I thought to go back to bed I’d already be up, eyes wide open and gym clothes in hand. I’d then think might as well get dressed and just do it. I would love to say it worked perfectly but it didn’t.

Day 1, I woke up at 5:14 and the alarm was in full swing. If Alexa was a human I’d imagine she’d have a voice like my best friend and say “bitch wake the fuck up! Look how long me a try wake yuh.” Day 2, I also woke up at 5:14. I remember both cause I was like what a random time on day one and on day two I thought, what are the odds?  If you subscribe to the ideology of Angel Numbers, here’s a snippet from sacredscribesangelnumbers.blogspot.com about what 514 means.

Angel Number 514 brings a message that you have been working towards making important life changes that will bring stability, strong foundations and new opportunities to achieve success. These changes have been manifested through your devotion to your passions and life purpose, and will bring many blessings and rewards.

Makes you think doesn’t it? Yeah, me too.

Anyway, here we are on Day 3. I think it’s both interesting and frightening how we just open our eyes and wake up sometimes. No alarm, no outside noise, no touch to pull us away from dreamland, just us randomly opening our eyes, our bodies doing its thing. Then, nuh me that bwoy lol. That was me this morning and then I thought, “damn, an alarm should’ve woken me up”. I knew that meant that I either missed it or didn’t set it and only 2 days on the journey I already know 5am passed. I grabbed my phone and it was 6:47. I checked my calendar and I had a meeting at 8 and in 3.5 seconds my brain calculated the travel time and gym time and decided we weren’t gonna make it….

I woke up exactly 2 hours later 13 mins before my first meeting of the day. How the hell am I more tired waking up almost 4 hours later? How does my back hurt more than it had the last two days? Why do I feel ‘slow’ sitting in this meeting? What the actual fuck is going on? There’s no way

Needless to say…today we missed the mark. Today the hero rests and comes up with a new strategy. Tomorrow we try again because we always try again!
